If you use an alternate mode at least twice a week (transit, carpool, telework, bike, walk, vanpool, compressed work week), you are eligible for Commuter Club membership. There is no cost to join. Membership is available to State of Arizona employees in Maricopa County (non-university). Benefits include free emergency ride home from work via rideshare service (Uber or Lyft) twice each year and Uber and Lyft discounts and incentives (for non-emergency ride share services). To join, please register through the online Commuter Club portal. This quick reference guide will assist you with your enrollment.
Emergency Ride Home
The primary purpose of Commuter Club is to offer employees who use alternate modes of transportation an emergency ride home (ERH), up to twice per fiscal year, for unexpected emergencies. Examples of qualifying emergencies include medical emergency, family medical emergency or the commuter’s carpool driver unexpectedly left early. ERH will return the employee to their car or their home. Capitol Rideshare has established a relationship with rideshare companies Uber and Lyft to provide the emergency ride home to commuters who need this service in an emergency.
NOTE: employees do not need to have an Uber or Lyft account to receive the emergency ride home. Commuter Club members with a qualifying emergency can request an emergency ride home by calling 602.542.RIDE. You must call during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, non-state holidays) to receive this service. We are unable to reimburse employees who book and pay for their own rides.
Discounts from Uber and Lyft
Once your Commuter Club application is processed, you will receive an email with discount offers from Uber and Lyft. This includes discounts to Commuter Club members who are new to their service as well as seasonal discounts to Commuter Club members who are veteran Uber and Lyft customers. Seasonal offers change throughout the year and are subject to expiration. If you are not familiar with these services, check out their web sites: www.uber.com and www.lyft.com.
During the months of May and June, Capitol Rideshare conducts the annual renewal process for Commuter Club members and Rideshare parking permit holders. Regardless of when you received your permit or became a member, everyone must renew by June 30 for the next state fiscal year.
